Providence is a covenant community of committed Christians seeking to live out their faith in meaningful ways in the Charleston area and beyond. Our approach to church leadership is intentionally member-oriented. Believing that “each member is a minister” we maintain a core of nine laity-led standing committees with each committee chair serving on our Coordinating Council. The Coordinating Council along with staff sets and implements church policy.

A partnering congregation with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, we trust in historic Baptist principles and theology.

COVENANT
Believing that we have been brought together by God as a community of Christians, we covenant together before God:
  • To join in regular study of the Bible and the worship of our God
  • To love and encourage one another, to remember one another in prayer, and to seek to enhance our fellowship.
  • To serve one another in humility and grace, following Christ’s example;
  • To consider one another as equals before God, regardless of gender, race, or social position, and to encourage the identification and cultivation of each other’s various spiritual gifts and callings.
  • To respect one another’s freedom as priests before God; to be accountable to one another for maintaining a Christ-like spirit and manner of behavior.
  • To be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation;
  • To seek to resolve conflicts in a direct but loving way, following Christ’s instruction.
  • To contribute whole-heartedly and regularly to the ministry and expenses of the church and to involve ourselves in meeting the spiritual and physical needs of those in the world around us through the proclamation of the Gospel.

COMMITTEES/COORDINATING COUNCIL
All areas of ministry are represented on a Coordinating Council which is comprised of minsterial staff and committee chairs (laity), presided over by an elected moderator (laity). Each committee is responsible for budgeting and planning their ministry through frequent work sessions. Accountable to the Coordinating Council and church body at large, each committee reports monthly to both parties during scheduled business meetings where input and support is generated for special church-wide issues or ministry opportunities.

Standing Committees are: Worship, Education, Missions, Outreach, Fellowship, Youth, Personnel, Finance and Facilities.

DENOMINATIONAL AFFILIATION: Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF)
At both a state- and national-level, we are affiliated a with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. This relationship provides us the unique opportunity to network with other Christians to address ministry needs that we simply couldn’t do on our own. Through our affiliation, we share educational resources, mobilize funding and support missionaries here at home and abroad, mostly in countries where the Gospel is rarely presented.

CBF began as a grassroots movement of free and faithful Baptists in May 1991. United by a common commitment to find new ways to fulfill the Great Commission, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship states its mission thusly: "We are a fellowship of Baptist Christians and churches who share a passion for the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice...serving Christians and churches as they discover and fulfill their God-given mission."
