Don Flowers has served as pastor of Providence Baptist Church since July 1997. Prior to coming to Charleston he served as Minister of Youth at First Baptist Church, Lenoir, NC and First Baptist Church, Greenville, SC. He is a native of Cherryville, North Carolina, and is a graduate of Wake Forest University, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Emory University.

"When you go to seminary, you dream of what a church might be like. Providence is as close to my dream as I may ever get. This is a loving, caring congregation where we have the freedom to try new things, ask tough questions, and do things in a different way — all the while knowing that you will be loved, no matter what the result."

In addition, Don serves as the Chair of the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. In the past he has served on the Coordinating Council of the SC Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, served with the Trident United Way and serves as a pool chaplain at MUSC Hospital. Don and his wife, Anita, are the parents of two daughters, Alison and Savannah. He enjoys playing golf, biking and being in, on, or near the water (but not while playing golf!)

Laura Turner  email
Organist

Laura Manning Turner is a Charleston native who has been a church pianist and/or organist for 30 years having started playing for churches when she was 13. She left the area to attend college at New York University earning B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Musical Theatre concurrently. After graduating, she taught at the Connecticut Conservatory of Dance and Music, the University of Northern Iowa and also traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia where she was a visiting professor on American Theatre. Arriving there shortly after the "Iron Curtain" had come down, she was invited to an international Christian church and was amazed to see all the Christians who had continued to worship during the communist years even when it was a great risk to their lives. It was there that she re-found her faith realizing what a gift we as Americans have to practice any faith we choose.

Since 1994 she has been a theatre professor at the College of Charleston where she began the Theatre for Young Audiences program and a masters program preparing theatre teachers. She also has a specialty in musical theatre. She is a playwright and composer of many musicals for family audiences collaborating with her husband Les Turner, whom she met when they worked together as music ministry staff in 1994.
